It is no secret that I am a massive foodie, you only have to scroll through my posts to see that.
AO.com contacted me to see if I would like to go to this years Summer Good Food Show at the NEC, and of course I said Yes Please!
AO.com were the sponsors for this years Summer Kitchen, where chefs such as Glynn Purnell, Andy Bates and Michael Caines, dazzled us with their culinary skills.
I was there on the Sunday and managed to see Glynn Purnell do his thing, and as a massive Glynn Purnell fan, this was my third time of getting to see him live in action!
The Good Food Show was full of national and local producers, and gave us the option of trying both new products and established brands.
I do find that the produce at the Good Food Show is quite similar to each other, for example, this year the stands seemed over run with flavoured Rape Seed Oils and the obligatory flavoured vodka and cheese!
Not that I was complaining, as who doesn’t love a bit of bread dipped in some balsamic and oil, but it did mean that when I came to buy some later on, I couldn’t remember which stand I liked best!
I ended up purchasing some lovely Caramelised Onion Balsamic Vinegar and Rosemary and Garlic Oil from The Gift of Oil. They had some really different flavour combinations, and would defiantly try more from them.
I brought some fabulous bread from a really lovely stall, but I can’t seem to recall which one! The breads were flavoured with blue cheese, the other garlic and herbs and the final one was a Mediterranean style bread.
Me and the bf subsequently demolished the bread for tea that evening, along with a lovely Scotch Egg from The Handmade Scotch Egg Company, which was flavoured with tarragon and lots of garlic and was thoroughly delicious!
I also purchased some coconut milk from Koko Dairy free, going for two chocolate and one original. The chocolate one was definitely my favourite, but with the original being less in fat than skimmed milk, I thought I would give it a try. Maybe I will review it for you once I have my verdict!
There were quite a few cake stands, but the one that stood out to me was Simply Cakes. I proceeded to buy a whopping big piece of Chocolate Orange Cake and another of Amaretto Cake. I cannot resist anything with amaretto in it’s title and both cakes did not disappoint. The chocolate orange piece was really chocolatey and orangey so lived up to its name! The amaretto cake was a bit more subtle in flavour, but still very yummy!
Amongst all the food purchases, I brought a Borner Mandoline! I was about to order a spiraliser to make courgette pasta and the like, but the Mandolin does this and oh so much more! I cannot wait to give it a go, so stay tuned for some cooking posts very soon!
Now, for all the love I have for food, my wine knowledge isn’t great, and I don’t do red wine, however, after tasting a rather nice red from Pieroth Wines who were selling wine tasting courses, I signed up for a 4 person tasting session, which is delivered in the comfort of your own home so I can learn more about wine! I am really looking forward to getting this booked and immersing myself in the world of wine!
Once we had been around all of the food stalls, we then decided that we hadn’t eaten enough and needed some lunch! I ended up having the mammoth of all Hog Roast Rolls with so much pork in even I couldn’t finish it. One thing it did need was gravy, I do love a bit of gravy on my pork rolls!
Of all the things to purchase at a food show, I managed to walk away with a piece of Jewellery from Crown Jewells. A bracelet to be precise. The magpie in me just got pulled into this amazing stand with all this shiny, twinkly jewellery. This bracelet is rose gold in colour with cubic zircon stones and is rather beautiful! I can’t wait to wear it out for my birthday (which has probably already been and gone by the time this post goes up!)
Overall, it was a lovely day, so thank you to AO.com for providing me with tickets!
Here are a few more photos for you…
Did you manage to check it out? What did you come back with?
