My charity focus for the month of April will be St Mary’s Hospice in Birmingham
St Mary’s Hospice is my local hospice, but they have a big reach in Birmingham and have recently undergone expansion with the help of another charity, Help Harry Help Others, along with Department of Health, which resulted in the new Harry Moseley Family Centre. The Family Centre, enables families to be close to their relatives who are being carried for at the Hospice.
St Mary’s Hospice have been providing vital care to patients and their families for over 35 years in a range of different ways.
The Hospice is home to range of services including a 25 bedded unit, a Day Hospice, a Hospice at Home Service and a Community Palliative Care Team
It costs over £8 million to keep St Mary’s Hospice going, that’s £15 every minute!
Like all charities, they rely heavily on the support of the local community to keep open and to be able to continue the amazing work they do.
Throughout the month of April, I will be highlighting the tireless work they do and also cover how you can get involved should you wish!
Now for the big news… I have signed up to do their 5K Chocolate Run on April 25th April. Now I know 5k isn’t that far, but I haven’t really done any running since my car accident in November 2013, so I am literally starting from scratch with only 4 weeks to go!
It is a sponsored event, however I haven’t set my sights to high on a fundraising target, but if you would like to donate, even if it is really small, then you can do so here.
Have you had any experience of your local hospice?
