Healthy Heart Tip No.2 – Keep Active
We all know that exercise is good for us, whether it be a brisk walk or a full-on run, keeping active can really benefit your heart health.
I have recently joined the gym and I can say, hand on heart (pun intended), that I really enjoy it. I have been doing a range of activities, such as work on the treadmill and cross-trainers to weights and also a few classes.
Not only will taking regular exercise help you lose weight, but it can also help manage blood pressure and cholesterol levels, strengthen that big heart muscle of yours and also make you feel pretty damn good too, by managing stress and releasing those endorphins.
It is recommended that us adults should exercise for around 30 minutes a day at least 5 days a week. This can be 10/15 minutes here and there and can also involve everyday activities as long as it get that heart pumpin!!
Heart Research UK have a host of tips to help you keep active, but here are a few to get you started:
- Get your dancing shoes on and learn to dance! Why not try something a bit different like belly dancing or, a favourite of mine, Argentine Tango!
- We all hate housework, but if you really get stuck in you can burn those calories and get that heart working!
- Try a new hobby or go back to an old one. Did you take up horse riding when you were young? Why not get back on the saddle!
- Sign up for one of the Heart Research UK events as a goal you can get fit for.
